Det Norske Veritas (U.S.A.), Inc. is seeking Naval Architect to work at our office in Katy, Texas.
Job Duties: Design and review naval architecture documents relating to construction and repair of marine craft and floating structures such as ships, barges, tugs, dredges, submarines, torpedoes, floats, and buoys. Assess technical adequacy in the areas of Marine Assurance and Advisory with particular focus on structural and naval architectural aspects. Review procedural aspects for loadout and installation operations. Review complete hull and superstructure according to specifications and test data, in conformity with standards of safety, efficiency, and economy. Study design proposals and specifications to establish marine craft size, weight, speed, propulsion, displacement, and draft, and evaluate performance of marine craft during dock and sea trials to determine design changes and ensure conformance with national and international standards. Make recommendations for further research, development, or investment in the following areas, as needed: Mooring Analysis (quasi-static and dynamic), Riser Analysis, Dynamic Positioning (DP) Capability, Analysis Motions, and Operability Studies. Apply principles and theoretical knowledge of: multi-dimensional error analysis of nearshore wave modeling tools, with application toward data-driven boundary correction; hydrodynamic and stability analyses of offshore floating production structures; and wave basin model tests.
- Masters degree in Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, Offshore Engineering, or Civil Engineering, plus 2 years of experience as Naval Architect or Marine Engineer.
- Alternatively, employer will accept a Bachelors degree in Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, Offshore Engineering, or Civil Engineering, plus 5 years of post-bachelor experience as Naval Architect or Marine Engineer.
- Must have the following skills:
- multi-dimensional error analysis of nearshore wave modeling tools, with application toward data-driven boundary correction;
- hydrodynamic and stability analyses of offshore floating production structures; and
- wave basin model tests.
