The Brunswick Boat Group Global Operations U.S. Engineering Team designs and engineers boats for Quicksilver and Uttern for European and global markets. The Brunswick Boat Group Global Operations U.S. office is located on the Boston Whaler campus in Edgewater, FL. 

  

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

 The Development Engineer is responsible for engineering related tasks in product development and product support with an emphasis on: evaluation, analysis, coordination, and implementation from styling through production and customer service. 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

 
*  Conceptual design - Provide space, construction and constraint requirements to all related engineering and design groups to ensure requirements for manufacturability, machinery, structure, functionality, and serviceability are met during the conceptual stage. Maintain working competitive knowledge of industry trends.  
*  Tooling design - Develop or coordinate the completion of all necessary models / drawings for tooling construction for molded parts of various materials and methods. Ensure approval of tooling "drawings" including review of part and component interrelationships prior to release.  
*  Structure and lamination - Develop or coordinate the completion of all structural arrangements, construction details and lamination schedules for each FRP part. Ensure structure is approved by coordinating the review and buy-off process.  
*  Arrangements - Develop exterior arrangement drawings which specify type and location of all parts and hardware. Develop or coordinate with the interior detailer, all interior joiner and assembly details.  
*  Calculations - Perform all necessary calculations for each product including: level or basic flotation, weight and balance, hydrostatics and structural stress and deflection. Provide information to naval architects as required for hull form development, performance prediction and testing. DE shall develop and continually update the weight study for each model developed.  
*  Core engineering requirements - Coordinate with the Core Engineering group all development engineering aspects of electrical systems, mechanical systems, and component development.  
*  Project coordination - Assist the project manager in the development and maintenance of the project schedule. Act as permanent member of the project team and coordinate all development engineering aspects of the project. Know the status of all parts throughout the development and provide information for manufacture or procurement of parts for prototype.  
*  Prototype development - Act as primary contact member for development issues on the project team and coordinate all design and development engineering aspects of the project with all involved personnel and departments.  
*  BOM development - Provide information to BOM Technician for lamination, structure, hardware and other developmental details.  
*  Part and Material specification - Develop or coordinate the development drawings and specifications for materials and component parts. Coordinate new part selection and purchase between sourcing/purchasing, engineering and suppliers.  
*  Documentation -- Review and approve all documentation prior to release to ensure appropriate engineering standards and construction details are met.  
*  Standardization - Design new products to utilize standard parts and manufacturing procedures and insure compliance to standards through prototype.  
*  Regulations, Recommendations and Compliance - Design new products for compliance to applicable regulations and recommendations. Audit and coordinate changes necessary to cause existing product compliance.  
*  Safety - Review new products for appropriate product liability considerations. Audit and coordinate changes necessary to existing products to minimize product liability.  
*  Testing and evaluation - Establish product performance criteria. Develop test specifications for use by Applications Engineering group. Evaluate components and complete products. Recommend and implement design changes and improvements.  
*  Manufacturing Support -- Provide technical development support to Manufacturing Engineering for all technical development related questions.  
*  Customer service assistance - Assist customer service within the immediate resolution of technical development related questions.  
*  Value analysis - Perform value analysis review for each product development assignment. Constantly evaluate opportunities for alternate components, construction techniques and assemblies to ensure competitive advantage and attainment of margin.  
*  Engineering change notices - Evaluate and approve engineering change notices through standard approval process. Evaluate existing products and production processes and assist the production engineer in the development of engineering change notices as needed.



 

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO OUR WINNING TEAM: 

EDUCATION: 

BS/BA Design, Engineering or Equivalent 

EXPERIENCE: 

Entry Level: 

Minimum 1 year Product development, Engineering or Design 

Manufacturing experience/knowledge preferred 

Extensive boating experience preferred 

Computer aided design preferred (EDS Unigraphics preferred) 

Project Management experience preferred 

Intermediate Level: 

Minimum 5 years Product development, Engineering or Design 

Minimum 1 year manufacturing experience/knowledge required 

Extensive boating experience required 

Computer aided design required (EDS Unigraphics preferred) 

Project Management experience preferred 

Senior Level: 

Minimum 10 years Product development, Engineering or Design 

Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience/knowledge required 

Extensive boating experience required 

Computer aided design required (EDS Unigraphics preferred) 

Project Management experience required 

DEMONSTRATED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

Must be highly organized, excellent communicator, motivator and decision maker. Must have good judgment skills and working knowledge of tooling, prototype and construction procedures. Must also have proven CAD skills.
