Position Summary

CAD & Systems Engineer is responsible for the creation, enforcement, and supervision of all CAD and drawing standards used by the department. Must also integrate and ensure efficient functionality of all systems and design-related software within the network.

Career Snapshot

  • Develops automated processes and standards for creation of electronic drawing communications, submittals and collaboration
  • Sets all computer drafting standards, PCP files, templates, layers, etc. to coordinate with all applicable disciplines
  • Develops and maintains plan for web-based drawing collaboration, annotation, project management systems, document management applications and programming; overseeing the execution of same by IT department
  • Makes recommendations concerning CAD related hardware and software and troubleshoots all CAD related hardware and software systems
  • Provides initial setup, instruction, and coordination with outside contract CAD users
  • Establishes filing standards for ready access by other in-house CAD users and maintains computer filing system of drawings from shipyard, in-house-design team, outside architects and consultants
  • Archives, logs and organizes files as required
  • Supports in-house architects, designers, external organizations and shipyards in transmission of electronic drawing files and conversions via Email and fax
  • Utilizes knowledge of send, receive, open, organize, plot and email CAD drawings (ie. complex multiple format and/or conversions)
  • Creates electronically colored CAD drawings for special projects as required for presentations to executive management or Board meetings
  • Occasionally draws finished designs and charts for representation of statistical data

 

Requirements

  • Four years college or university program certificate
  • Eight to twelve years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be experienced with AutoCAD release 2002 or higher, have some familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and have a working knowledge of related printers, plotters and equipment
  • Strong architectural interiors background as well as strong graphic presentation skills
  • Familiarity with 3D drawings required
  • Must demonstrate high proficiency for learning new software applications
  • Must be pro-active and highly organized
  • Must have the ability to take initiative
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Must demonstrate high proficiency with spelling, grammar and the use of the English language
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, external organizations and shipyards of multiple origins
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discount, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, areas, circumferences and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Must be able to work in the metric system
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form
