Description

The Naval Architect will work within the Hull Engineering department in support of concept development, detail design, and production of US Navy and Coast Guard ships and may include the following responsibilities:

  • Analysis of hull structure for environmental loads and weapon effects using US Navy requirements. Methods include hand calculations, spreadsheet and MathCAD tools, and Finite Element Analysis
  • Analysis of equipment support structure and foundations for dynamic loading and vibration. Methods include static and dynamic FEA, DDAM, and transient shock analysis
  • Structural analysis of lifting and transporting arrangements for ship modules and components • Development of jigs and fixtures to aid in ship construction and testing
  • Hull form development and analysis
  • Weight and stability calculations
  • Launching and docking calculations
  • Tank Capacity calculations
  • Ship surveys
  • Technical support related to procuring ship furnishings and outfit, such as anchoring, mooring, towing, replenishment, and boat handling systems
  • Project management, report writing, and presenting to stakeholders
Job Requirements

B.S. in Naval Architecture required

Engineer II: minimum 1 year experience

Engineer III: minimum 3 years' experience

Sr. Engineer: minimum 5 years' experience

  • Ship design experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience with the following computer programs is desirable:
  • MathCAD, SHCP, Hydromax, ShipWeight, Maestro, FEMAP, NASTRAN, RISA
  • Expert knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Ability to organize, plan, and execute projects
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work multiple priorities simultaneously, and to completion
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance
  • Ability to travel
